While Korean pop is having a huge moment in the spotlight, there is also a thriving indie-music scene. One band that has been flirting between the worlds of indie music and some major-label success is The Rose.
Meeting while busking on the streets of Hongdae in early 2015 and debuting in 2017, the band has been through all the pitfalls and rides of the music world and have come out on the other side better than ever. The quartet, made up of vocalist and guitarist Woosung, vocalist and keyboardist Dojoon, drummer Hajoon, and bassist Teagyeom, is bringing their ROSETOPIA WORLD TOUR to Melbourne and Sydney this October
The Rose first hit the public consciousness in 2017 with their debut single ‘Sorry’ and after much acclaim followed it up with ‘Like We Used To‘. From between August- December 2017, this rookie act gained a huge following, with Billboard dubbing ‘Sorry’ one of the best K-Pop songs of the year. This set them on a global trajectory, taking them to Europe as well as some great success at home. In 2018, the band also toured America and released a second mini-album Dawn.
While 2019 led them to tv show appearances, a second world tour and other adventures, it was in 2020 The Rose entered some tumultuous times. The pandemic led to the cancellation of their appearance on US Artist’s Halsey‘s tour, a lawsuit against their agency and then eventual military service, they entered an indefinite hiatus.

Returning though in 2022 with their own independent label, Windfall, the name taken from their previous band from before they debuted as The Rose. Since then it is been up and up. The band have been gracing the world stages over the years. With appearances at renowned festivals like Coachella and Lollapolloza, The Rose have garnered both a huge following and industry respect with their emotional songwriting and distinctive sound.
This latest tour, Rosetopia marks a new chapter in the evolution of The Rose. Their latest release ROSE following on from last years release WRLD, we can hear a sense of warmness and delight that has moved into their song-writing. Their fans, dubbed Black Roses, can expect on their Australian dates a beautiful reunion. A mix of old and new, to celebrate the journey the band has been on over the last decade.
For diehard Black Roses to enthusiasts of indie-rock, this will be one show that you don’t want to miss. It’s not long now, so get on tickets ASAP.
